How to use the bag and the wraps

Put the bread in the bag once it has cooled completely, and close the clip. On the counter the bread stays fresh for 7 to 10 days.

If it needs to keep longer, the bag goes straight into the freezer and the bread thaws in the same bag. Cold does not harm the beeswax.

The fridge is fine too, as long as the bread stays in the bag. It is the dry air that hardens bread, and it does not get into the bag.

Beeswax wrap is a sheet of cotton with natural beeswax and tree resin. The warmth of your hands makes the wax pliable, so the sheet moulds around bowls, cheese, fruit and vegetables and seals by itself. The fabric breathes, so food stays fresh longer than under plastic.

Can beeswax wraps replace plastic wrap? Yes, that is exactly what the sheets are made for. Cover bowls and plates, wrap cheese, fruit and vegetables. One set is used over and over, so the roll of plastic wrap can stay on the shelf.

Renewing the wax

The bag can get a fresh coat of wax when the coating thins, usually after 6 to 9 months of use. You will notice it when the fabric looks dull and water no longer beads on the surface.

Here is how: grate the beeswax block finely and sprinkle a thin, even layer on the inside of a clean and completely dry bag. Put baking paper underneath and on top, and place it in the oven at 70 degrees for a few minutes, until the wax is glossy and has soaked into the fabric. Let the bag lie flat until it is completely cold.

The beeswax wraps are renewed as before: a few minutes in the oven on low heat.

Care and washing

Hand wash in cold water with mild soap, then hang to air dry.

Never machine wash and never use water above 40 °C. That melts the beeswax.

Rinse in cold water with mild soap and hang to air dry. Never hot water, dishwashers or washing machines, heat melts the wax.
